THE VICTORS’ DEVOTIONAL DIGEST;
DATE: 19/12/22.
TOPIC: ” LOOK NOT BEHIND YOU!”
TEXT: Gen 19:12-17, 22; Lk 17:32-33; 9:61-62; Phil 3:7-8, 13-14.
KEY VERSES:
“And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.”
(Genesis 19:17, 26)
“Remember Lot’s wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.”
(Luke 17:32-33).
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 3:13-14).
NOTE:
Journeying with God makes no room for looking back in doubts and double mindedness. Jesus put it very clear that, “No man who having laid his hands upon the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God!” (Lk 9:61-62). God abhors and rejects such an ignoble attitude of instability!
The story of Lot and his family in the Bible remains a serious warning to all and sundry; on the grave consequence of looking back to the land or city of Destruction after one has been graciously delivered or saved from the imminent destruction! Lot and his wife and children were seriously warned not to look back to Sodom and Gomorrah after their deliverance. But despite the warnings, Lot’s wife decided to look back in disobedience, and she became a pillar of salt! That’s a very serious consequence!
Jesus warns: “Remember Lot’s wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it!”
(Luke 17:32-33).
After your salvation and deliverance; or liberation from any manner of demonic bondage, God warns that you never think of looking back or returning to that house of bondage once again! Whether to your past sinful life style from which you have been saved or delivered; or, occult practices, cultism and gangsterism, bad friendship, false worship of any sort which leads back to spiritual bondage.
Again, you shouldn’t live in guilt and self condemnation of your past sins and error which God has forgiven you after your repentance.
You shouldn’t like the children of Israel desire to go back to Egypt for whatever reasons, it is damnable to the soul; it turns one’s spirit and soul into a pillar of salt!
Becoming a pillar of salt simply means losing the Spirit of Grace that makes one a living child of God: active and productive, with heavenly focus.
There are many pillars of salt today in the church as a result of people having backsliden in their hearts by looking back to the world of their past sinful life. They’ve lost the spirit of seriousness in prayer, zeal and passion for active evangelism, faith for fervent service unto God. They’ve lost sense of direction in their journey with God. They are into worldly friendship which dry there soul and spirit of divine unction. Spiritually dead!
Such persons make no more headway in their journey with God. They make no more progress towards achieving or securing God’s great purposes and promises for their lives. They are no more in the race to heaven and to glory. Quite dangerous!
The safety code: Forward ever backward never!
Follow Paul’s policy; “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,”
(Philippians 3:7-8)
Gaining Christ requires the loss of many things of earthly value, including positions and positions; which soon pass away with this life and this world. Don’t lose Christ at the expense of looking back to the vanities of this world. Lay hold on Christ and eternal life; and remain focused on following God in your journey to heaven!
Forget the past and focus on your future with Christ, as Paul also said,
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 3:13-14)
There is a great prize ahead to pursue; a golden goal to secure; a glorious feature; eternal crown in Christ Jesus; never you lose sight of that! Forget the past and be focused for the future glory which awaits you in Christ, both in time and eternity! And soon you will see great revivals in your life, and mighty breakthroughs in many areas and situations around you, in the name of Jesus! Amen.
Be focused and be ever Victorious! Amen!
— Chris O Abraham.
